General Guidelines for Internships

  1. Discuss the idea of an internship with your Faculty Internship Advisor.
  2. Do you meet the requirements? When will it fit in your schedule?
  3. Register in the Internship Office, Clare Hall 125.
  4. Attend an “Internship Success” workshop.
  5. Prepare a resume and cover letter. Review them with Internship staff and Faculty Internship Advisor.
  6. Register on-line with KnightWork
  7. Create your own file on KnightWork including your resume and cover letter.
  8. Begin networking to find the best internship for you.
  9. Network with employers, family, friends, faculty and Marian College alumni.
  10. Check KnightWork, IndianaINTERN.net & other websites.
  11. Research employers you may be interested in.
  12. Choose employers to contact. Follow employers’ application process.
  13. Send application and resume. Include cover letter, references and transcript if required.
  14. Polish interviewing skills with Internship Director.
  15. Interview with employer.
  16. Once you have been offered an internship meet with your Faculty Internship Advisor to develop your Learning Contract.
  17. Learning Contract requires signatures of Faculty Advisor, Worksite supervisor and student. Return to Office of Internships.
  18. To receive credit for the internship you must register for the Internship course through your department major.
